Charlotte parking deck collapses

CHARLOTTE — A small section of a four-story parking deck near SouthPark Mall in Charlotte has collapsed, but authorities say no one is hurt. Charlotte Fire Department Captain Rob Brisley says a few cars suffered some minor damage. The deck is next to an office building, and the section fell around 8:30 a.m. as many people were arriving for work….

Fort Bragg soldier dies from injuries in Afghanistan

Military officials say a soldier based at Fort Bragg has died from non-combat related injuries.

A statement from the post on Monday said 20-year-old Pvt. Matthew Warren Brown died Sunday morning in Asadabad, Afghanistan. Brown’s death is under investigation.

Wrightsville Beach may increase property taxes

videoThe Board of Alderman will consider the increase when it reviews its budget Monday night.

Wrightsville beach is considering boosting its tax rate from 6.34 cents per $100 to eight cents. That means if you own a $1 million home, your taxes go from $634 to $800 dollars.

Recent rain leads to shellfish restrictions

The large amount of rainfall we’ve received in the last couple of days has caused large amounts of polluted storm water runoff to flow into local waterways. Due to the danger, the Division of Marine Fisheries has closed some shellfish areas.

Global Day of Prayer held in Wilmington

More than three hundred million people in 210 countries prayed together yesterday as part of the Global Day of Prayer.

Here in Wilmington, worshipers filled Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church. The original location was Legion Stadium, but the rain forced the event to move indoors.

Trial to begin in 1999 murder

The trial is scheduled to start today for a man accused of killing a FBI employee nearly a decade ago. It took a six-year investigation and a man hunt that led federal agents to Louisiana in 2005, to finally bring Tyrone Delgado back to Wilmington to stand trial for the murder of Melissa Mooney.
