A Calabash couple is in jail charged with running a marijuana growing operation in their home.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s narcotics agents arrested Lee David Foster, 40, and Melissa Marie Foster, 37, for maintaining a dwelling to keep and sell a controlled substance and other drug crimes.

Holiday ‘Booze It & Lose It’ kicks off today

State Transportation Secretary Gene Conti announced today that state and local law enforcement officers will be out in force as part of the Holiday “Booze It & Lose It” campaign. Checkpoints and stepped-up patrols will be conducted beginning today through Wednesday, Jan. 2, across North Carolina in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the roads.

Fayetteville announces task force on gun violence

Fayetteville police have formed a task force in an attempt to curb the recent increase in local gun violence.

Officials held a news conference Thursday to address concerns about the shootings, including three incidents at the same convenience store. A 67-year-old man was robbed and shot to death, and two suspects have been arrested in the case.

Transportation crews working to restore NC Highway 12 by Christmas

The N.C. Department of Transportation is continuing its work to restore N.C. Highway 12 north of Rodanthe. Road crews temporarily closed the four-wheel drive route Thursday to remove damaged pavement and level the area in hopes to reopen the road to all traffic by Christmas. The emergency ferry route between Stumpy Point and Rodanthe remained open.
