Echo Farms residents are still concerned about golf course development
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Residents of Echo Farms could be in danger of losing their golf course and that has many concerned.
“The population growth here has outstripped what the infrastructure is,” said Jerry Anderson, a concerned resident.
The first step has been taken to build 275 new homes and 400 townhomes on the golf course
“We’ve been forced by a developer that wants to destroy not only our lifestyle but the surrounding community as well,” said Beth Ann Hillman who is also a concerned resident.
According to the city, the plans are only in their infancy.
“We’ve received a scope and approved a scope but at this point the traffic engineers for a potential developer are working through and identifying what area would need to be studied,” said Mike Kozlosky the executive director of Wilmington’s Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Residents said a traffic study already completed this summer.
“When school is not in, the new apartments have not been finished and completed which will add another 75 to 100 cars in and out of the main entrance of Echo Farms, nor has Meridian been finished and completed on Carolina Beach Rd. That also adds traffic,” said Hillman.
Residents plan to hold a couple of meetings to talk about these concerns and how to get more answers.
