Cerro Gordo race car places 14th in Daytona 500
DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (WWAY) — Southeastern North Carolina made an appearance at The Great American Race this afternoon.
A race team out of Cerro Gordo has a lot to be proud of after the checkered flag flew on the Daytona International Speedway.
Ricky Benton Racing out of the Columbus County town of less than 200 had it’s very own car qualify into the Daytona 500. The car number 92 was sponsored by Black’s Tire, Carquest Auto and many others.
The driver and car finished in 14th overall. If you saw the race, the fact that it left the track without a scratch is a success. Out of more than 40 drivers, 25 completed the 500 lap race.
The racing team tells WWAY they are thankful and overjoyed with how the car and driver performed.
