Newcomer edges out longtime New Hanover School Board member

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — After 24 years in office, New Hanover County School Board Chairman Ed Higgins will not advance to the November election.

Higgins, who was first elected in 1994, came in fifth behind newcomer Bill Rivenbark.

Rivenbark, along with Bruce Shell, Don Hayes and Janice Cavenaugh were the top four vote-getters.

Frank Meares and Christopher Morgan came in sixth and seventh.

They are the four GOP nominees who will face four Democrats in the general election.
