Thompson loses Brunswick School Board seat to Benton

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Republican John Thompson faced two primary challengers for his District 5 seat on the Brunswick County School Board.

The race finished in an upset, as Jerry Benton beat Thompson by about 600 votes.

Robert Cruse finished in third.

Benton faces Democrat Joanne Levitan in November’s general election.
