Animal cruelty charges refiled against accused duck hoarder

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County woman is once again facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly hoarding more than 140 ducks.

Cynthia Huber was served with a criminal summons last week. She had her first court appearance Monday morning.

Huber was originally charged in December, after sheriff’s deputies searched her home on Watermill Way and found dozens of disabled or injured ducks. Skywatch Bird Rescue took the ducks and Friends of Felines removed cats from the property.

During Huber’s court date on April 25, the state made a motion to continue the case because veterinarians needed to testify were not available. The judge denied the request and dropped the charges.

The charges were refiled and Huber was served on Wednesday.

Huber’s next court date is July 9.
