County and city leaders to formally purchase, enter agreement to acquire Echo Farms land
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – This week county and city leaders will sign the dotted line to agree in their planned purchase of a portion of Echo Farms.
New Hanover County commissioners will meet Monday to vote on purchasing the land and enter an intergovernmental agreement with the city to develop it. The cost for the land is $1.7 million.
The deal would be for 14 acres at Echo Farms, including the tennis courts, swimming pool, tennis clubhouse, former golf clubhouse, parking lots and enough land to build a walking trail.
The total cost of the property and improvements will range to $4.4 million dollars. The county is considering paying the majority of that cost at $2.7 million. They are requesting the city cover around 40% of those total costs with a $1.68 million contribution.
The City of Wilmington is expected to adopt a similar agreement and purchase request in their Tuesday meeting.
