Residents evicted after alleged mold outbreak at Wilmington complex

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –  Residents at a Wilmington apartment complex are furious about being evicted from their homes. They say they are being told to leave The Glen apartments with just a day’s notice.

The complex got hit with a lot of flooding and damage from Florence. Now their homes are full of mold and water. Some roofs even completely caved in.

Residents say they have been told they need to get out, but management has not offered them any help. They only have hours to pack everything. People like Sally Newkirk just want answers.

“If they tell everybody we’ve got to leave, we don’t know where we’re going,” Newkirk said. “We don’t have money to go anywhere. I mean, it’s crazy. And it’s not something that just started from the storm.”

Newkirk says she has been asking for repairs for years. She says she cannot live like this.. but she has nowhere to go. We have reached out to the apartment staff but our calls were not answered Sunday evening.
