One dead following crash on Dan Cameron Bridge in New Hanover County

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A death investigation is underway along I-140 on the Dan Cameron Bridge after a vehicle crash according to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer tells us that drivers reported someone driving erratically along I-140 around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday evening. Brewer says witnesses saw the driver hit an 18-wheeler semi-truck on the bridge.

Initial reports said the driver then jumped off of the bridge. Now the sheriff’s office is investigating whether he jumped or fell off of it.

Brewer says the man has died.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol will investigate the crash.
