GREENSBORO, NC (AP) — A North Carolina high school basketball player is hospitalized after a fall in a state playoff game.

News outlets report Southwest Guilford High School says senior Christian Martin was showing improvement after he was sedated in critical but stable condition last Sunday. The school said on its Facebook page this week that his bleeding on the brain had stopped.

Officials say Martin was attempting a dunk in last Saturday’s playoff game, but missed, got his hand caught in the net and fell to the floor and landed on his head. The 6-foot, 3-inch player was taken off the court on a stretcher.

Southwest Guilford defeated Concord Cox Mill, 88-58, in the 3-A boys West Regional finals at Lenoir-Rhyne University to advance to the championship game next Saturday against Burlington Williams.
