2026 Oak Island Citizens Academy applications open

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Oak Island announced on Thursday that applications are open for the 2026 Oak Island Citizens Academy.

Citizens Academy is a program designed to educate residents with the departments and services provided by local government. There will be ten total classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in February and March. Classes will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Through hands-on learning, this course is designed to help the public understand who, why, and how the government operates at the municipal level.

The course is first come, first serve and you can sign up online.
