Wilmington block party aims to raise awareness of Medicaid expansion, healthcare help

WILMINGTON (WWAY) — As we get ready to ring in the new year, some in the community are making it their resolution to spread awareness of Medicaid expansion.
Dozens of people gathered outside Lifepoint Church Saturday for a block party. The event was organized by Wellcare Health of Wilmington, as a fun way to give people the tools to navigate the health care system — including Medicaid.
Regina Boone is the manager of community engagement for Wellcare. She says it’s important to let as many people as possible know that they may now be eligible.
“Simply for those folks who are underserved, for those folks who don’t have coverage, its vastly important that they get this information, check their eligibility and see if they can get coverage,” Boone said.
If you missed the event, there will be other block parties held throughout the state to raise awareness.
