239th anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge attracts visitors

CURRIE, NC (WWAY) — It was 239 years ago on February 27th when history was made at Moores Creek. This weekend the anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge was remembered by reenacting what it was like to live in 1776.

From cooking lessons to candle making, music, and even cannons firing, this educational event takes you to the front lines of a battle that ended royal authority in the North Carolina colony.

Chief of Interpretation Matthew Woods said you should come out to support the battlefield but to also, “support history. The only time you can really come and interact with history is when you come to these events. When you see the individuals dressed up it’s almost taking you back to 1776 as if you’re talking to and walking with these individuals.”

The event is from February 21-22 from 10-4 pm each day.

Woods says it’s a great event for all ages, but it gives the youth a chance to learn history in a fun and hands-on environment.
