Car seat check helps parents stay safe

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department held a free car seat check earlier today at Station 9 on Military Cutoff Road.

Folks in the area had the chance to have their child’s seat installed or checked to be sure it had been installed correctly.

Safe Kids North Carolina Director Meg Langston said, “Most people don’t realize that 3 out of 4 seats are installed incorrectly. That’s a 75% rate that there’s something wrong with your seat.”

Children are required to use a car seat or booster seat until they are at least 8 years old or 80 pounds.

If you missed today’s car seat check, you can visit BuckleUpNC.org to find a place to have your child restraints checked.
