Wilmington Theater Award voting begins

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It is theater award season according to the StarNews.

Some of the shows nominated this year include Macbeth and Mary Poppins.

StarNews editor and theater award coordinator Jeff Hidek said there are three sets of judges. They include the public, the StarNews and production agencies in the area.

For those not familiar with the award ceremony, Hideck said it is a way to award the great productions in our area.

“The awards started 5 years ago,” Hidek said. “It was sort of our way to celebrate the great work that is being done in community theater here and, really for a city our size, we have so many theater companies. We have close to almost 20 who have been actively producing at least one show a year.”
