Wildcats clinch third-round playoff victory, Duplin Co. set for a playoff match-up


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover Wildcats took on Durham Hillside in the third round of state playoffs. The Wildcats came out ready to play, starting off strong.

They allowed just one touchdown in the first half, but they came out even stronger in the second.

The Wildcats secured the victory 52-15 over the Hornets.

The Wildcats move onto the Eastern 4A finals next Friday. If they win that one, they’ll get to play in the state championship game. This is the first time the Wildcats have advanced to the state semifinals since 2009.

Wallace-Rose Hill was at home Friday night in the 1AA bracket against East Carteret. The Bulldogs came out on fire and never stopped. They began running out the clock toward the end of the game. Wallace-Rose Hill beat East Carteret 59-7. They will play at home next week against James Kenan.

James Kenan advanced in the playoffs after a close game against Tarboro. Kenan came back from behind to tie it up at 14-14. They pulled away with the win 21-14

James Kenan will face Wallac-Rose Hill next week for a good old Duplin County match-up.
