Nonprofit Kids Making It sells holiday items

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As we get closer to Christmas, one local nonprofit may be the place to do some shopping at.

Kids Making It held an holiday open house this evening to show off their latest creations.

The organization helps youth stay in school, graduate, and transition them into college or the workplace.

From ornaments to bird houses to chairs and even jewelry, they have it all.

Each item is made by teens who has learned skills like woodworking and retail sales.

New Hanover High School student Austin Wilson says, “I do a lot of different stuff like turn pens and make wine bottle stoppers.”

Jose Rodriguez, Williston Middle School student, said, “It makes me feel proud because I get to give people stuff and they get to use it in their on way.”

The students keep 100% of the profits from all items they have made and sold.

Staff says the students who participate in the program learn the true value of a dollar.
