Police investigating officer’s actions responding to student fight

OMAHA, NE (KETV) — The Omaha Police Department is looking into the actions of Officer Nicholas Caniglia as he worked to break up a student fight at Millard South High School.

An OPD spokesperson confirmed Thursday night that Caniglia has been temporarily reassigned and Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer approved an internal investigation into the incident.

Video posted Thursday afternoon shows Caniglia repeatedly punching a teen while trying to break up a fight after a school security guard’s efforts were unsuccessful.

One teenage student was cited for misdemeanor assault, according to a release from OPD.
