27th annual Good Friends Luncheon held at Wilmington Convention Center

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Everybody needs a good friend, and one group in Wilmington hosted a major fundraiser Wednesday morning to raise money for people in the Cape Fear.

The 27th Annual Good Friends Luncheon was held in the Grand Ballroom at the Wilmington Convention Center.

About a dozen elected and community leaders, including WWAY’s Jeff Rivenbark and Matt Bennett, dressed up as Santa Claus and sang holiday carols as the women arrived.

Good Friends of Wilmington is a nonprofit organization that raises money to provide financial assistance to New Hanover County individuals and families in need or disadvantaged.

Good Friends luncheon chair Joy Skinner said it’s special seeing the event grow and help more people every year.

“We feel incredibly blessed that so many Wilmington women support us and come to this event year after year,” Skinner said. “It really makes your holiday and its just an opportunity that you can give back to people in this community that need a little help.”

Since Good Friends of Wilmington’s inception in 1997, the organization has released 100% of all contributions back to those in need within our community.
