Hoggard teacher chosen as finalist for NC Teacher of the Year
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Schools are celebrating one of their teachers.
A world history teacher at Hoggard High School, Katie Snyder, was surprised today by staff after she was selected as teacher of the year for the southeast region.
Snyder has already been selected as teacher of the year for Hoggard High School and New Hanover County Schools. She said she has been teaching for 9 years. Snyder said she had no idea what she was doing when she was called into the high school today.
“I had no idea,” Snyder said. “I just thought that I was coming up to school to talk to my administrator and that was it.”
Snyder said her favorite part of teaching is her students.
“My favorite thing on a daily basis is the students,” Snyder said. “I mean that’s what makes teaching worth it.”
Snyder is one of nine other teachers nominated to be chosen as teacher of the year for the state in March. If she is selected, she will be given a year off of teaching to travel around the state to do professional development.
