2nd annual Black Man Running 5k

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Runners gathered in Hugh McRae Park this weekend for a 5k to support a specific kind of culture for the Cape Fear area.

The organization ‘Free Movement’ held its 2nd Black Man Running 5k event.

Hundreds of people came out to run in order to promote physical health and support social justice for black individuals.

“Beyond just the physical health, there’s also the mental health and the political health, as well as the social justice workshops that are going on and just providing a healthier community, one in which we all work together,” Cameron Parker, a social justice runner, said.

“The biggest thing is love. Love other people, love hard and like support people, and respect. Honestly, I think that’s the biggest thing that everybody should live by,” Daniel Barrett, a performer at the event, said.

The event included music from a live band and other performers.

Organizers plan on holding the event again next year.
