2nd inmate says he was beaten at North Carolina prison
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Another inmate at a North Carolina prison has stepped forward to say he was beaten while handcuffed.
Randy Massey told The Charlotte Observer that he lost a tooth, suffered a cut above his eye and numerous bruises after he hit a guard in March 2015.
Massey says the order to beat him was given by the superintendent at Lumberton Correctional Institution. The 53-year-old inmate is serving a 62-year sentence for statutory rape
Prison officials say they investigated Massey’s case and found no evidence anyone was ordered to beat him. They say he was properly restrained after hitting one guard and attacking another.
State prison officials say their investigation into injuries suffered by a 65-year-old inmate who said he was beaten at the same prison also found no inappropriate use of force.
