2nd round of public input needed for Downtown Transfer Center project
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The public has another chance to weigh in on the proposed Multi-Modal Transportation Center in downtown Wilmington tonight.
It is a project that has been in the works for almost two decades. Tonight, city leaders and Wave Transit are holding an update meeting and another chance for public input since the last one about a year ago.
The Downtown Wilmington Transfer Center Project is proposed for the area near 520 North 3rd Street. The site extends to 4th Street.
At a stakeholder meeting last year, residents voiced several concerns including traffic and noise, how it will affect quality of life and loitering. Christopher Marville lives nearby that area. He said he is not opposed to it.
“I’m for growth as long as it doesn’t hurt the people that are already here,” Marville said. “I am for growth. I am for building up. I am for moving forward and progression as like as it doesn’t like as long as it doesn’t affect the people living in it.”
Marville does have some reservations though.
“It might bring in more homeless people, because you know they just sit on the benches and chill,” Marville said. “Even once we built the new benches on third street, we have people sleeping on there. It’s like, I understand people go through things, but it’s downtown. Let’s make it look beautiful. It’s the first thing when you come into town.”
The meeting starts at 5:30 at the Brooklyn Arts Center at St. Andrews at
516 North 4th Street.
