3 Bladen bridges opening today

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A spokesman with the NCDOT said three new bridges will be open to drivers this weekend near the Bladen/Columbus line.

The bridges are at the Cape Fear River on NC 11. The bridges that were replaced were more than 60 years old. Deputies with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office will be helping with traffic control as the final markings are made. Drivers are urged to use caution in the area.

A $14.9 million contract for the new bridges was awarded to a company based in Blacksburg, SC.

The spokesman said demolition of the old bridges and embankment work will continue until early 2016.
