300-pound loggerhead turtle Snooki gets a new tank

SURF CITY (WWAY) — The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (KBSTRRC) in Surf City completed a new fifteen-foot sea turtle rehabilitation pool to house large sea turtles in need of rehabilitation.
Most immediately, the tank will be used to house “Snooki,” a three-hundred pound adult, female loggerhead sea turtle. Snooki is non-releasable due to permanent medical issues.
Snooki stranded September 9th, 2016 in New Jersey. She was then transferred to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Center on October 30th for ongoing care.
She was diagnosed with spinal fractures leading to positive buoyancy syndrome, making her non-releasable.
While KBSTRRC continues to seek a forever home for Snooki, this new large tank will allow her more space to swim and grow stronger.
