Brunswick County asks for public input on adding greenways and blueways
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Planning Board is holding two meetings and they want your input. The new project could create a network of greenways and blueways throughout the county.
Leaders are working to develop areas like the Brunswick Riverwalk in Belville to attract more people spend time outside, but this is just a step in the process of increasing more outdoor activities for visitors and residents in Brunswick County.
“We pretty much come to the park every day,” Resident Denise Guagenti said.
The county is hoping to add greenways and blueways which would create a network of trails and help people to get out more.
“I like coming here, she loves it,” Guagenti said. “We enjoy playing on the swings and the slides.”
They would help connect parks, open spaces, historic and cultural sites, shopping centers, water access sites and beaches.
“It’s better for them to be outside then cooped up in the house watching TV all day,” Guagenti said. “It’s not good.”
The county hopes to have a printed county-wide map showing the greenway and blueway network features, destinations, and connections within towns.
Public input meetings will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m. Town Creek Elementary School and another one tomorrow night at Shallotte Town Hall.
