Police chief warns new officers about social media

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department swore in 11 news officers at city hall this afternoon.

Police Chief Ralph Evangelous gave a speech to the new officers during the ceremony. He challenged them to work hard and serve the public with the utmost integrity.

The chief also warned the new officers of something that has become an issue in our society. He told them to be careful about what they post to social media.

“People doing and saying dumb things on social media come back to haunt them and the last thing I want is to have them ruin their career, because they make some unthoughtful comment on one of these social media sites,” Evangelous said.

The chief also said he is proud to have another group of officers to serve the Wilmington community.
