24-hour paddle planned to raise money for local families facing cancer

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) —  A group of people will soon be paddle boarding for 24 hours to raise money for a local family struggling against cancer.

The 24-hour paddle will be done by six people in two hour blocks.

The paddle boarders will start at Carolina Paddleboarding Company in Wrightsville Beach next Friday at Noon and paddle around the Intracoastal Waterway through the night.

All the money raised will go toward to help a local boy facing a rare form of brain cancer.

“It is difficult to paddle for 24 hours, the legalistic and staying up through the night and supporting your fellow paddlers,” participant April Zilg said. “When you look at it, it’s no where near as hard as the battle at these families are going through, the battle of cancer.”

Zilg says we hope that the money raised can help the family take a trip, pay medical bills or somehow make their lives a little easier.

If you would like to donate, you can on their GoFundMe page.

If you would like to paddle in the event, email John at john@distressedmullet.com.
