Coast Guard event teaches safety

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) —  People of all ages got a chance to learn about safety at the Oak Island Coast Guard Station Saturday.

Once a year, the station hosts the event that brings in first responders and other safety agencies from the area. Participants  learned about fire safety, CPR, and of course boat safety at the event. Coast Guard Officer Todd Murray said it also teaches the public about how crews respond to emergencies.

“It can provide assistance and that way they would know what each person’s going to do when they show up for that emergency, if they do need them,” Murray said.

The Coast Guard said with the boating season starting, they encourage people to learn as much about boat and water safety as possible.
