Pender High student would like help in paying expenses for soccer trip to California

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — A Pender High School student needs your help to pay expenses for a trip that he’s taking to California this weekend. Eduardo Rivera has been selected to play in a prestigious soccer event.

HARRISON, NJ (NY RED BULLS) – The New York Red Bulls and Major League Soccer announced today the final roster of 15 talented young field players and three goalkeepers who will compete at the National Finals of Sueño MLS 2016- Presented by Allstate Insurance Company in Carson, Calif., between May 4-7. The field was set yesterday at the New York Red Bulls tryouts, where the last six participants were selected (see names below).

The nationally-televised player search is showcased on Univision Deportes’ República Deportiva, the popular weekly sports entertainment program that chronicles the tryouts in a “reality show within a show” format.

This year the finalists will be coached and mentored by Sueño MLS Ambassadors Luis “El Matador” Hernández, legendary Mexican forward and Mexican goalkeeping legend, Adolfo Ríos.

Charlton Alonso (Goalkeeper – 13 years old – Paramus, N.J.) At the age of 13, Alonso is the local winner of the Allstate “Good Hands ®” top goalkeeper award – El Portero Allstate. NYRB scouts mentioned that despite his young age, he can organize and take command of the team. He grew up in a family of six brothers and currently lives in New Jersey. Alonso started to play soccer as a striker, but eventually switched to goalkeeper at the age of seven. His favorite MLS team is the New York Red Bulls.

Heyson Argueta (Defender – 14 years old – Stanford, Conn.)
Native of Guatemala, Argueta is 14 years old and currently lives in Connecticut. His favorite player is Shaun Wright-Phillips who also plays for his favorite team New York Red Bulls. Argueta tries to implement on the field all the soccer skills and tricks that he always practices at home. The scouts described Argueta as a strong and aggressive player who feels very comfortable as a left back and is also very talented with the ball.

Arturo Ernand (Midfielder – 15 years old – Miami, Fla.)
Ernand is 15 years old and was born and raised in Miami. He is of Ecuadorian and Venezuelan heritage. This is his second time reaching the Sueño MLS national finals. Last time Ernand was unable to play the final due to an injury, which is why he decided to return and redeem himself. He recently competed in Argentina against some of the most important clubs there. His favorite MLS player is Kaká and his favorite team is Orlando City SC. The NYRB scouts mentioned that Ernand is a solid and tactical player, who can easily integrate himself in the offense.

Samuka Kenneh (Midfielder – 15 years old – New York City, N.Y.)
Kenneth is a young midfielder who currently lives in the Bronx, but was born in Namibia. When he arrived from Africa in 2004, he did not practice soccer. His brother influenced him to practice soccer almost 5 years ago. His favorite MLS player is David Villa and his team is NYCFC. Coaches say that Kenneh is a versatile player that can occupy the defense or midfield. He is also a fast player, who can easily integrates well to the attack.

Eduardo Rivera (Midfielder – 15 years old – Burgaw, N.C.)
Rivera is 15 years old and currently lives in North Carolina. Last year, he tried out for Sueño MLS in Chicago, but unfortunately did not make it to the next round. This year he decided to train harder and compete once again for Sueño MLS. Rivera’s favorite team is the New York Red Bulls and his favorite player is Thierry Henry. The scouts describe Rivera as a quick and athletic player, who is not afraid to confront and attack his rivals.

Omar Torres (Defender – 14 years old – New York City, N.Y.)
Torres, a 14-year-old defender from Queens, is a native of Colombia. His father has always supported him and is very happy about this accomplishment. His favorite MLS team is New York City FC and his favorite player is Andrea Pirlo. Scouts highlight Torres’ mature personality and his defensive skills.
