(WWAY) — An Extreme Heat Warning is in place for this afternoon with hot and humid conditions once again for today.
Very hot high pressure aloft remains in control with a weak surface front dropping down toward the region today before fading Thursday. Rain chances will drop some for middle and late week as the heat cranks up. We anticipate heat indices each afternoon through Saturday to reach as high as 106-112. Look for a few afternoon showers or thunderstorms today with highs in the upper 90s. Thursday will be very hot and humid with an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm possible and highs again in the upper 90s. Friday… very hot and humid weather is expected as highs soar into the upper 90s. The upcoming weekend brings continued very hot weather Saturday with highs in the upper 90s followed by a weak cold front arriving Sunday and lowering our temps into the lower 90s. Also… there will be an increase in coverage of daily showers and thunderstorms this weekend. The front will shift south of the area by next Monday helping take a bite out of the high heat and bringing seasonable highs around or a little over 90 with hit or miss showers and thunderstorms possible.
**EXTREME HEAT WARNING: EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING. Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 113 expected.***
