Town Creek Middle School plans presented at meeting

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Have you been wondering what the new Town Creek Middle School in Brunswick County is going to look like?

On Tuesday night community members had a closer look.

Brunswick County citizens approved a $152 million school bond in 2016, which will help fund the construction of Town Creek Middle and Early College High School.

Brunswick County school leaders held a public meeting Tuesday night at Town Creek Elementary School. Developers shared floor plans and renderings for the new middle school.

“We’ve tried to create as much flexibility in the building as possible,” KSQ Design Principal Douglas Burns said. “You have all these big elements, which actually came out of the process, you have the athletic piece, the administration piece, you have the dining piece, you have the media piece, the fine arts piece, then you have the classroom pieces and they’re all connected by an organizing spine.”

In 2016 a Brunswick County Schools spokesperson said the school bond will pay for improvements for all 19 schools in the county.

Construction of Town Creek Middle School is in the first round of projects, with construction expected to begin in June.

All building and improvement projects will occur in three phases over the next ten years.
