5 people and a dog rescued after two boats capsize in Masonboro Inlet
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — 5 people and a dog had to be rescued after two boats capsized in Masonboro Inlet Saturday afternoon.
According to Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue Director Sam Proffitt, a small boat capsized just after 4 pm, due to large swells in the inlet.
2 people and a dog were thrown overboard.
Crews arrived shortly after to help rescue them, and during this, another civilian boat trying to assist, also capsized due to the swells, putting 3 more people into the water.
Proffitt said everyone was rescued and advised against navigating through Masonboro Inlet into the ocean unless you are confident in your piloting skills or have a large boat.
