$50,000 reward offered for information leading to capture of escaped convicted murderer
RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Ramone Alston, a convicted murderer who escaped from state custody on Tuesday morning while en route to a medical appointment in Hillsborough.
The ongoing search involves local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Governor Roy Cooper announced the reward, with $30,000 provided by the state, $10,000 from the United States Marshals Service, and $10,000 from the FBI.
“State, federal, and local law enforcement are working together to locate and arrest Ramone Alston and return him to state custody,” Cooper said in a statement. “I urge anyone with information to please come forward and contact the Department of Adult Correction tipline.”
Alston, 30, is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder after being convicted of the 2015 shooting death of a one-year-old child in Chapel Hill. He is described as a 5-foot-11, 230-pound Black male with long black dreadlocks at the time of his escape, though authorities warn he may have altered his appearance.
“There is someone out there who knows where Alston is,” said Secretary Todd Ishee of the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. “We hope that this reward will bring them forward with the critical information that leads to Alston’s capture.”
Anyone with information on Alston’s whereabouts is urged to contact the NC Department of Adult Correction tipline at 919-324-1082.
