9/11 remembrance ceremonies around the Cape Fear
CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — Events and ceremonies begin across our region to remember September 11th.
Wednesday Sept. 11th:
- Surf City will be hosting its 5th annual Bridge Walk starting at Soundside Park in Surf City. Meet at 8:15 a.m. and the walk starts at 8:46 a.m.
- The Student Veterans Organization and the Office of Military Affairs at UNCW is hosting the 23rd Annual 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony at 8:30am at the Veterans Hall by the flagpole followed by brunch and learn at 10:00 a.m.
- Wilmington Fire Department hosts their annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Wilmington Fallen Firefighters Memorial starting at 9:00am.
- The Southport Police Department will hold a brief ceremony starting at 9:00 a.m. The department will also have a new display of “reflection and remembrance” honoring the first responders who died including Police, Fire, & EMS. The display will be open until 4:00 p.m.
- John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 Leland and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12196 Leland and Auxiliary is hosting a commemoration from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Blossoms Restaurant Banquet Room.
- VFW Post #10226 Oak Island will host the the Oak Island 9/11 Observance will be at 10 a.m. at EF Middleton Park.
- The Richard H. Stewart, Jr. St James American Legion Post 543 and the St James Fire Department is hosing a ceremony at St James Community Center at 10:00 a.m.
- There will be a Patriot’s Day, 911 Memorial Service at the Burgaw Train Depot at 5:30 p.m.
- New Hanover Fire Rescue is hosting a ceremony and memorial at 6:15 p.m. at Ogden Park Baseball Fields.
