9 senior living communities compete in 3rd annual Liberty Games

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 2024 Paris Olympics may not be starting for another 4 months, but right here in the Cape Fear, some seniors are showing they’ve still got their competitive spirit.

The 3rd annual Liberty Games were held at Carolina Bay Senior Living on March 6th and 7th, where residents from 9 different senior living centers competed against each other. 

Some of the sports they faced off in included the water walk, balloon toss, shuffleboard, and billiards. 

Ernie Alexander and Gus Cottros took part in the games for Carolina Bay. 

They said the games are a great way to meet new people, while also showing their pride in their community. 

“You get to meet more people and enjoy their backgrounds and what they’ve done,” Cottros said.

“We are very competitive community and the other communities are competitive as well so its just really great to get together and settle who’s the best,” Alexander said.

Communities from South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida competed in this yea’s games.
