911 callers react to Carolina Beach boat accident

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — 911 calls are revealing a party boat crash shook up not only passengers but also witnesses who weren’t even on the boat.

Almost 60 people were on board when witnesses say that the Royal Winner Princess II cruise boat seemed to hit something. Witnesses said that it hit rocks or a dock off of Carolina Beach.

Officials at the scene said 15 passengers were asked if they would like to go to the hospital. 6 went but were eventually released.

The Coast Guard is reporting that injuries were only minor bumps and bruises.

A 911 caller was surprised at what he saw and says he was a bit shaken up.

“No, he was going down the intercoastal water way and he hit this fishing dock that they just built down here. And he wasn’t slowing down,” said the 911 caller.

EMS, firefighters, and police were all assisting those on board and making sure that everyone was safe.

The Coast Guard is handling the investigation into the cause of the crash.
