9th annual Wilma Dash runs through Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s a race that took place right here in Wilmington this evening and it only featured women.
This was the ninth annual race that started and finished at the Coastline Convention Center in Downtown Wilmington. Hundreds of women participated, some in costume and some even pushing strollers. Cheers filled the streets as the runners came to the finish line.
They finished with pride knowing they ran in North Carolina’s only female 5k.
“This was so much fun, it was my first time doing it, I’m with the Junior League of Wilmington and we had a team of runners here tonight,” Madeline Schilwacther, Wilmington, said. “It was a great chance to come out here and run downtown and see a whole bunch of women doing the same thing, all ability levels and ages. It was great.”
Now at the end of the day, it was still a race. Brittany Copeland from Wilmington came in first at 18:16. Karen Eckberg and Kimberly Mueller also from Wilmington, rounded out your top three.
