Forecaster say temperatures in the 90s and dewpoints in the 70s will lead to heat index values of around 110 degrees this afternoon and into the early evening. An Excessive Heat Warning means the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. To reduce the risk of heat illness during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Bladen County is now under a Heat Advisory from noon until 7 p.m. with heat index values expected to reach as high as 109 degrees.
