Surf City shark sighting clears water temporarily
SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — In Surf City, an apparent shark sighting cleared the water temporarily Sunday afternoon.
Hundreds of beach visitors stood by the shoreline around noon after an apparent shark swam around some surfers.
It happened just to the left of the Surf City Pier. Beach goers say no one was attacked, but everyone stood around the shoreline as police drove by on an ATV. Police said they try to keep people away from the area when this happens.
One visitor said the shark looked to be about four feet long swimming around some surfers. Visitors said it looks like everyone is being a little bit more cautious about getting in the water these days, but you can see the beach is still packed. In this case no one was hurt.
