Carolina Shores begins flooding recovery efforts

CAROLINA SHORES, NC (WWAY) — The recovery process is underway for Carolina Shores after more than 18 inches of rain fell in the town in four days.

Tuesday morning town leaders held the first of many recovery briefings for residents. Town administrator John Mendenhall said they will hold these meeting twice a day for two weeks for homeowners. The town said it is working with Brunswick County and the state to repair all the damage.

Mayor Walter Goodenough said during this historic flooding no lives were lost, but there were about 30 swift water rescues in the town. He said considering how much rain fell in the town area, they got lucky.

“Extremely lucky,” Goodenough said.

Residents with questions, damaged property, or in need of assistance are asked to attend. The Red Cross is providing the town clean up kits for homeowners.
