Central Prison hospital in Raleigh being investigated by state

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Prison officials in North Carolina say an outside agency is investigating the Central Prison in Raleigh.

Spokeswoman Pamela Walker would not provide details to local media outlets who reported the review appears to focus on the prison hospital.

Walker says the agency is cooperating with investigators.

She said the agency has reassigned some personnel at the hospital. She would not comment about a top administrator at the hospital.

The hospital at Central Prison is a regional medical center with 120 inpatient hospital beds and a 216-bed mental health facility. The Department of Public Safety website says more than 550 people are employed at the hospital.
