Wilmington budget work session discusses 2.5 cent property tax increase
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council is working on the 2024-2025 budget and a tax increase could be part of that budget.
During a budget work session on January 29, members of city staff proposed a 2.5 cent property tax increase.
The Capital Improvement Plan, which includes items ranging from bridge replacements, building maintenance, and other city needs, is listed as the reason that increase would be needed.
Council Member Kevin Spears spoke out against the increase saying it seems “shady” to suggest the increase after assuring there wouldn’t be one in past budget meetings.
Another budget work session will be held next month with the recommended budget set to be presented to council in May.
