Tropical Depression Nine forms, could impact Carolinas

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As of Sunday evening, the National Hurricane Center upgraded Invest 99L to Tropical Depression Nine.

NHC has issued advisories for Tropical Depression Nine between Cuba and Florida. Its located about 60 miles south of Key West, FL. It’s likely to strengthen into a tropical storm as it moves west and then north through the Gulf of Mexico over the next few days. Landfall is likely between the southeast coast of Louisiana and Florida by mid week.

While this won’t have an impact on us in the short term, it could make a turn late week and affect the Carolinas over Labor Day weekend. The greatest impact at this time would be heavy rain.

Stay tuned for the latest information in the WWAY Hurricane Center.
