Quail Hollow’s Championship Director discusses upcoming Wells Fargo and 2025 PGA Championships
BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — The PGA Championship is one of the four major golf tournaments on the PGA Tour and in 2025, its coming back to Quail Hollow in Charlotte. Quail Hollow’s Championship Director Jason Soucey is excited for this next go-around after hosting the PGA Championship in 2017.
“Yeah, well that’s what’s so unique is that Charlotte is such a hot bed for golf and the Carolina’s in general, but that was the first time a major has been held in the Charlotte area. A few things have changed since then, ride share has grown exponentially. So, there is a lot of things that we’ve started to work on to make sure that what worked in ’17 we can improve on and what we maybe head to tweak, we can improve on as well,” said Soucey.
Things have certainly changed on the course since 2017 champion Justin Thomas won as well.
“You know it can be set up in so many different ways, the tour comes in their year end, year out. Quail Hollow Club is always tweaking, making changes, updates making it better. They’ve made a few improvements already that we’re going to see this year at the Wells Fargo Championship,” Soucey said.
With a major championship coming to town, its certainly bound to draw in plenty of eyes for local economic impacts.
“We have some tremendous data for 2017. Also, 50% of our ticket buyers came from outside the greater Charlotte area. So, it’s just a huge huge impact on tourism for the region,” Soucey said.
