Coastal Horizon holds 9th annual Duck Derby

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — They say slow and steady wins the race, and that certainly was the case during the 9th Annual Coastal Duck Derby at Jungle Rapids Fun Park in Wilmington.

20,000 rubber ducks floated down the park’s lazy river, and ducks could be “adopted” for $5 each.

It was all to raise money for Coastal Horizons to support their crisis intervention services.

Coastal Horizons Vice President of Development and External Affairs Elizabeth Redenbaugh said the support from the community means a lot to the organization’s employees.

“They have to process a lot that’s, what’s happening with our clients,” Redenbaugh said. “And so, for them to have the community be behind them, it means everything. It gives them that pat on the back that they need and it just fills all of us with tremendous joy.”

The grand prize for whoever adopted the winning duck was a choice between an all-expenses paid trip to either Hawaii or London and Edinburgh.

There was another choice as well – tickets to a Taylor Swift concert.
