FORE! Paws Place Dog Rescue gearing up for annual golf fundraiser
WINNABOW, NC (WWAY) — In Brunswick County, golf isn’t just about birdies and eagles, it’s also about pairing up four-legged friends with forever families.
Paws Place Dog Rescue, based in Winnabow, is getting ready for one of its biggest annual fundraisers. The 11th annual golf tournament is taking place on September 23 at Compass Pointe Golf Club.
Although the event isn’t for two months, the rescue is currently seeking sponsors, raffle items, and silent auction items. Golf entry tickets will go on sale in August.
The no-kill shelter relies on donations and volunteers in order to operate. It sits on 17 acres of land and includes 26 indoor/outdoor kennels, five quarantine kennels, more than five acres of walkable space for dogs, and more.
Some tournament sponsors will receive free rounds of golf for the event. Paws Place Board President Lee VanOrmer says it’s open to golfers of all experience levels, from first-timers to advanced.
“We always have dogs there in the morning to greet all the golfers as they arrive to do check-in as well as to wish them good luck out on the course,” she said. “Last year we had over 120 people participate and raised close to $90,000.”
