Belville Elementary students dealing with mosquito problems

BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Students at Belville Elementary were being restricted/limited on outdoor recess time due to a severe mosquito problem.

Heavy rains from Tropical Storm Debby left large amounts of standing water across the school’s campus.
Since school has started, Brunswick County Mosquito Control has sprayed at the school 3 to 4 times a week.
Belville Administration put out a statement on the mosquito situation:
“We wanted to update you that we are still managing the presence of mosquitoes around the school. Brunswick County is spraying several times a week, and we’ve also enlisted a private company to assist. Our teachers are using their best judgment regarding outdoor recess to ensure students’ safety and comfort. Depending on the conditions, recess may be adjusted or held indoors if necessary.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to keep our students safe and healthy. Please feel free to reach out if you have any concerns or questions.”
