WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A vehicle hit a man in a motorized wheelchair on Antoniette Drive near Carolina Beach Road, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

NCHP says that on November 12th, around 4:00 p.m., a man in a motorized wheelchair was traveling on Antoinette Drive when he was rear-ended by a car.

The man in a motorized wheelchair did have the right-of-way because a motorized wheelchair is allowed on public roadways if the speed limit on that roadway is 25 mph or slower.

The man in a wheelchair was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the car was charged with Misdemeanor Failure to Reduce Speed.
